TOPIC: New Motor Development

New Motor Development 5 months 1 week ago #96

Hello All

I've been talking to the manufacturer I mentioned in my introduction posts. They are going to start developing a new motor and emailed me to ask if it would suit our needs:

250mm 60/80/100kw

Bo - is 250mm too big to be your dream motor?

Any thoughts or suggestions I can pass back to the manufacturer?

Cheers
David

Hi David.
I'm on vacation with the family in the Canaries and therefore not online as often.

60 kw is too much. We need around 20 to 25 hp. corresponding 15 to 18 kw. It is not important whether the engine is 200mm or 250mm. Here are my suggestions:

15-18 kw (15 kw will fit most e-ppg applications)
66.6 volts
40 KV (corresponds to 2664 rpm at 66.6 volts)

Take a look at this engine. It is very similar to my dream motor. But it is expensive:

Hi.. I've used that motor and it does work very well, esp with a 130 prop. It IS expensive.. about $1500. I've been looking for others and have also written to the manufacuturers above, but it really is a dilemma...

Hi.. I've been thinking about this and saw the Chinese manuf who offers a 35 kW motor at 27 Kv and 110v.. I wonder if that motor were 54 kv (they said they could do) and the motor is operated at 55 volts if we don't get to our magical 15-18 kW at 2500 rpm..

I asked already and they do not have power curves for their motors.. but $610 USD is very cheap..

best, Peter
